Allergies: Pollen in the air. Dogs in the house. Mold everywhere. With spring comes warmer weather, however for some, it also comes with horrible allergies. People with allergies tend to have it the worst during this time of the year because this is the season where pollen flourishes the most. Depending on where you live, determines how sensitive your allergies will be. Allergies can cause sneezing, sniffling, and itchy eyes–all in which people try to avoid. Fortunately, Westland Clinic has a few suggestions on how to cope with allergies during the spring season.
Allergy Relief Tips
Windy days are typically most common in the springtime. Generally, the wind can transport pollen more than 100 miles away from its original source. Staying indoors between the times of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. will help to decrease allergy flares.
Here are a few allergy relief tips:
- Exercising in the morning or late in the evening is suggested for those who have bad allergies–pollen counts are normally lower when it’s cooler outside.
- When doing yard work/gardening, wear a protective mask to help reduce allergens.
- Wear sunglasses while outside to help protect your eyes from pollen.
- To avoid pollen transfer to your pillowcase, be sure to wash your hair by the end of a day’s work.
- Pets, especially dogs, are known for bringing in pollen from outdoors. Make sure that you check your pet’s’ fur before entering the house.
